Summary.
The production of nitric acid involves a number of hazardous substances, principally ammonia, nitric acid and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) gases. Consequently, a number of regulations related to safety, health and environment affect nitric acid operations in the European Union. The paper briefly describes the relevant legislation, with focus on the UK regulations.
